More About Liver Disease and MASH Research

If you have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or obesity, you may be at risk for liver disease. The Latino community faces a higher risk of liver disease due to factors like obesity, metabolic syndrome, dietary habits, and genetics. Approximately half of all Hispanics and Latinos carry the PNPLA3 gene, significantly increasing their risk of liver disease.

Research efforts have been focused on developing treatments to target the underlying mechanisms of MASH and reduce liver fat accumulation, inflammation, and fibrosis. Several clinical trials are underway to evaluate the safety and efficacy of various investigational drugs.
