The Need for Migraine Research
Migraines are a common and debilitating neurological disorder characterized by intense headaches often accompanied by other symptoms such as nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and visual disturbances. They can significantly impact a person’s daily life, leading to pain and disruption. Migraines affect approximately 15% of adults and an estimated 7.7% of children and teens (younger than 20). About one-third of these people have 3 or more migraine headaches per month, and over half report severe impairment or the need for bed rest. While there are treatments available, they may not work for everyone, and migraines can be challenging to manage. By studying migraines, scientists aim to uncover their underlying causes, triggers, and more effective treatments.
