About Shingles Vaccine Research
Shingles, also known as herpes zoster (HZ), is a painful skin condition caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), the same virus that causes chickenpox. It results in a rash with blisters that typically appear on one side of the body. The pain associated with shingles can be severe and long-lasting, affecting daily activities and quality of life. While there is a vaccine available to prevent shingles, its effectiveness can vary. Therefore, ongoing research in this area is crucial. By studying shingles, scientists aim to better understand its causes, develop more effective vaccines and treatments, and ultimately alleviate the burden of pain and discomfort for individuals affected by this condition.
