About Cancer Screening Research
Skin cancer is a serious condition that develops when skin cells grow uncontrollably and form malignant tumors. It’s primarily caused by excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or tanning beds. Skin cancer comes in different types, including melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma. It can have significant physical and emotional impacts, affecting appearance and overall well-being. While there are treatments available, such as surgery, radiation, and targeted therapies, skin cancer can still pose challenges, especially if detected at later stages. By studying skin cancer, scientists aim to better understand its causes, improve early detection methods, and develop more effective treatments. If you have skin lesions/moles, you may be able to join a research study for technologies intended to help determine whether skin abnormalities may be cancerous.
